iPod Touch Facetime rumors

Friday 6 August 2010 @ 12:41 pm

ipod_touch_face-time As we get closer to September, rumors about Apple devices are likely to increase. There was a rumor of a touchscreen iPod Shuffle and a 7 inch iPad for the release in back to school season. Now, iPod Touch is told to feature Face Time video chat feature, debuted with the release of iPhone 4.

A photo released by MacRumors shows a LCD panel and bezel of iPod Touch, showing a space on the top that appears to be a slot fro a front-facing camera. The part looks more authentic as it is marked with "Apple (c) 2010" and the manufacture date April 29, 2010 indicates the recent manufacturing of the part.

Rumors are rumors and we have to wait till Apple releases them if they were true. In the mean time, Apple enjoys the free publicity it receives with such rumors.

It’s not easy to be told what to do – iPhone Antenna issue

Wednesday 21 July 2010 @ 9:41 am

i-told-you-so1 Apple CEO Steve Jobs is not used to being said what to do with his device.

When people started telling that his device was not good enough, he was outraged. He started telling how they need to hold the ‘magic device’. Consumer Reports was the one to blame for all these hassles. That was why he was ‘stunned and embarrassed’.

Some points to prove that he wasn’t at ease in the press meet:

  • Admitting "We’re not perfect” shouldn’t have been easy for Jobs. That is why he started his presentation by admitting the truth.
  • He was still in defensive mood – repeatedly calling out the press for blowing the problem out of proportion.
  • Saying and trying to prove, the antenna problem isn’t unique to Apple.

And yes, nobody cared! As long as they can get their hand on the $29 ‘bumper,’ for free!

Those, who heard of the the Apple engineers knowing about the problem beforehand, are asking, ‘Is Apple staffed with people afraid to tell the truth?’

iPhone bumpers for free, Apple admits to antenna issues

Friday 16 July 2010 @ 4:45 pm

Apple CEO Steve Jobs told that Apple “screwed up” with the signal algorithm of iPhone 4. Jobs was unhappy on the issue being blown out of proportion. Jobs was talking in a press meet organized to talk about the Antenna problem in new iPhone.

Apple was dismissing the antenna problem by telling the consumers to hold the phone differently and later telling it as a software problem, until influential product review publication, Consumer Report, said it could not recommend iPhone in its current state.

Apologizing to those customers who are having problem, Jobs told, "We were stunned and embarrassed" by the conclusion of Consumer Reports’ article.

Anyone who buys an iPhone 4 through Sept. 30 will get a free ‘bumper’, a rubber-and-plastic band, fits snugly around the edges of iPhone 4. Customers who have already purchased a bumper will get a refund. The AT&T subscribers wanting to return the device can get a full refund and get out of their contracts without penalties.

The band is marked $29 in the Apple’s website – but, is not available for sale.

Even with the problem, iPhone 4 has become the company’s fastest selling product ever with more than 3 million sets sold since its release on June 24.

Apple risked the new iPhone design because Steve Jobs liked it very much

Friday 16 July 2010 @ 2:15 am

steve-jobs-iPhone-4Before the July 16 press meet to deal with the antenna problem of iPhone 4, the Wall Street Journal article, quoting a person familiar with the matter said that Apple is not planning to recall the phone.

Quoting another source, WSJ claim, Apple engineers knew of the risks associated with the new antenna design for, at least a year before the release. It was the Chief Executive, Steve Jobs who wanted to go ahead with the design because, he liked it very much.

To keep the device secret, Apple didn’t do the real-world testing of the ‘naked’ phones before its release. They sent out test phones enclosed in covers to disguise the real shapes and some of its functions.

It is to be noted that the prototype that gizmodo.com got hold of, was also enclosed in a case to give an impression that the device was an old iPhone. While testing devices on case the reception problem couldn’t be replicated as there won’t be any direct contact with the antenna.

iPhone 4 – Apple to meet press, to talk antenna, on July 16

Thursday 15 July 2010 @ 3:09 am

iphone-4 When the antenna issue of the new iPhone, iPhone 4, went beyond Apple’s expectation, Apple has planned a press conference on July 16. The press meet is planned to be held at the company headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Shortly after the release of iPhone 4 on June 24, users have complained about problem in reception when they touch or cover the lower-left corner of the device. The Consumer Reports, this week, didn’t buy Apple’s instruction on how to hold the new iPhone and told that it wouldn’t recommend the phone because of the problem.

Some analysts also have suggested Apple needs to address the problem in more responsible manner. Some even suggested that an iPhone recall is around the corner. Experts predict Apple to either issue free cases to the owners of the iPhone 4 or conduct a product recall. Product recall would probably be the costliest of the two.

What steps Apple has planned would only be known on July 16, 2010.

iPhone 4 call for recall – Is it Apple or the antenna that is problematic?

Tuesday 13 July 2010 @ 5:34 pm

taped-iphone Since the release of iPhone 4, the users have been complaining about the antenna issue. Apple so far, has avoided the serious issue first by telling users how to hold the new iPhone and then blaming a software glitch.

But, when consumer advocate group, Consumer Reports, made it official that Apple is to blame for the new iPhone, question is being raised on where the real problem lies.

Is it Apple or is it the iPhone 4 where the problem lies?

If the problem lies in the iPhone, why is Apple trying to avoid the obvious? Closing eyes doesn’t solve the problem. Apple was apparently deleting discussion about the Consumer Reports story in its message board.

It is true that the antenna problem is not a big one. One can solve the problem easily by taping the metal antenna to avoid direct contact. But, as Consumer Reports blog says:

We think it’s the company’s responsibility to provide the fix—at no extra cost to consumers.

Are the consumers telling, the statement “Steve Jobs utters, we listen,” can’t always be true?

In this context some are predicting ‘Toyota-style PR crisis for Apple’. Others are telling that the recall is ‘inevitable’.

Only time will tell how Steve Jobs chose to respond.

iPhone coming to Verizon in January

Tuesday 29 June 2010 @ 6:41 pm

There is a good news for those who resisted their urge to carry an iPhone, simply because it only works on AT&T network. Verizon might start selling iPhone as soon as the year end.

According to people familiar with the plans, Verizon Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company, will start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone next year, ending AT&T Inc.’s exclusive hold on the smartphone in the U.S. Businessweek reports that:

The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment.

Since the introduction of iPhone in 2007, Apple has sold more than 50 million units. iPhone 4, the latest version, sold more than 1.7 million units in the first three days after its June 24 debut. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that the company didn’t have enough supply to meet demand of the latest iPhone.

iPhone 4 on 1.7 million hands in 3 days

Monday 28 June 2010 @ 12:41 pm

iPhone-4- In three days of its launch, all of its 1.7 million units of iPhone 4 were sold, and some unlucky customers have to wait for the arrival of new shipment.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a press release that the iPhone 4 was Apple’s most successful product launch ever.

Jobs added, "Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply."

That was an impressive sales in spite of the antenna problem which Apple says, is there to stay.

Apple started selling the smartphone online on June 15, when both Apple and AT&T websites were unable to manage the heavy demand, causing delays to many customer orders. AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the iPhone in the U.S.
