Human is a social animal and we need everybody to be around and help each other. But due to the modern advances in technology and ways of life (lifestyle) we don’t get much time to devote to others.
I found a nice list on what to do to build a community and want to share with you people.
The list goes like :
* Turn off your TV
* Leave your house
* Know your neighbors
* Look up when you are walking
* Greet people
* Sit on your stoop
* Plant flowers
* Use your library
* Play together
* Buy from local merchants
* Share what you have
* Help a lost dog
* Take children to the park
* Garden together
* Support neighborhood schools
* Fix it even if you didnt break it
* Have pot lucks
* Honor elders
* Pick up litter
* Read stories aloud
* Dance in the street
* Talk to the mail carrier
* Listen to the birds
* Put up a swing
* Help carry something heavy
* Barter for your goods
* Start a tradition
* Ask a question
* Hire young people for odd jobs
* Organize a block party
* Bake extra and share
* Ask for help when you need it
* Open your shades
* Sing together
* Share your skills
* Take back the night
* Turn up the music
* Turn down the music
* Listen before you react to anger
* Mediate a conflict
* Seek to understand
* Learn from new and uncomfortable angles
* Know that no one is silent though many are not heard
* Work to change this
Long huh ? But still it is nice to read (at least!!)
I hope you people will use it in your life and the works done by these sweet people at SCW community in preparing list won’t go to drain.
It is tax filing time again…. I always hate this thing. But there no way I can avoid it. You have to file it anyway; weather you like it or not.
For income tax preparation and filing, there are a number of software available in market : Quick Tax, ufile and so on…. Some are highly priced others are reasonably priced but they are priced for sure.
If you want something less expensive, or rather free, check out StudioTax.
StudioTax is a windows based bilingual personal Income Tax preparation software made by Canadians for Canadians. This software is made available for Canadian Taxpayers for personal use only.
StudioTax is distributed using a flexible licensing model. No license key or registration is required to download, install and use StudioTax. After you use StudioTax and you find it useful, we ask that you take the time to make a modest monetary contribution toward the support of this product.
They don’t yet support Netfile, but they are getting the software certified with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Kitchen Computer

Hello! It is 1969, and my wonderful husband has bought me a Honeywell Kitchen Computer to help me with my cooking! It is a $10,000+ status symbol from the Nieman Marcus catalog. It will replace my unwieldy and difficult to use recipe box. How I love my Kitchen Computer! And my husband!
The Kitchen Computer is both stylish and functional. See its sleek lines, bright red accents, and handy built-in counter top? It matches my dress! And my lipstick!
… … What a piece of junk! What idiot thought this was a good idea? I hate my Kitchen Computer! I hate my husband! I’m going to divorce him and go get a job designing computers that don’t suck!
An article about kitchen computer in Dr. Dobb’s Jornal.
You can see it in person at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, currently housed next to the first production Google rack (in the background of the photos to the left of the Kitchen Computer).
This website tells about full size boats from paper during the later half of the 19th century.
Good resource about paper boats and boat building. Paper boat tutorial from a book published in 1887 is interesting (http://kcupery.home.isp-direct.com/paperfold3.GIF).
Boat building tutorial with step by step photographs can be found in http://www.laits.utexas.edu/hebrew/personal/toolbox/acm/boat/boat.html
These resources should be great help in helping kids making paper boats and play with them.
Enjoy!!
This guy won Guinness World Records in 2005 and didn't know about it till now. He is the only Nepali sportsperson to feature in the Guinness Book of World Records, for clocking the fastest run at the highest altitude, but he learnt about it only eight years after setting the record (source: kantipur daily).

Spectacular views compensate for the
dangers of high altitude running. Source
His record was Published in 2005, the Golden Jubilee year of Guinness Book of World Records. It states the Jumla-based marathoner set a world record timing of 3hr. 16min. 3sec. in the Everest Marathon in 1999. The race began from Gorak Shep at an altitude of 17,100 ft and concluded at Namche Bazar at 11,300 ft.

These are the only pictures I could find of him. I hope to find and update better quality pictures later.
A News quote about Hari.
Hari Bahadur Rokaya’s practice schedule is as tough as his home terrain in Jumla. Like most marathon runners he prefers setting off in the early morning, past the bazar, along the trail down to the Bheri, over the suspension bridge, past paddy terraces glistening in the sun, along the edge of the pine-scented forest. After two hours, this world class athlete is back home in time for a snack of instant noodles.
His training may be ‘low tech’, his shoes frayed, but Hari more than makes up for it with his determination and patriotism. The up-and-down and the thin air at 3,300m is good training. The 41-year-old sets himself a grueling pace: he has reached Rara Lake from Jumla in seven hours, a distance that takes trekkers two days.

After trying for 30 minutes to bring two-week-old Woody Lander back to life, doctors decided there was nothing more they could do and called in his parents to say their tearful farewells. A nurse passed Woody to his heartbroken father and gently pulled a tube from his mouth so they could kiss him goodbye.
Then the miracle happened. The lifeless baby suddenly coughed and moved. Nurses immediately grabbed Woody back, re-attached the tubes and lifesaving equipment and he came back to life in front of his astonished parents. Woody is now 14 months old.

The Girl Scouts of America built a site on MySpace to Sell Cookies. Well well, that is the new age kids.

On the site you’ll find pictures of the cookies and some of the cleanest, most fully-dressed pictures of people you’ll ever find on MySpace
